Chris crouched down behind some wood packing crates as the bullets whizzed by his head and imbedded in the wall behind him. This sting operation had gone sour in a matter of minuets and bullets and men where flying everywhere. Cops, thugs and drug dealers were all diving for cover or trying to get out of the warehouse as the battle lines were being drawn.
Somewhere out there in all this confusion his partner was
ducking for cover too. How could he have been so stupid as to let her come in without him
watching her back? Derek Grey was a good cop, but he would never cover Rita the way he
should. Chris has a sixth sense where Rita was concerned, he new her moves and she new
his. Thats what made them such great partners, they stood behind each other all the way.
He had to get out of here and make sure she was all right. Something told him that she
needed him right now, and he'd be damn if he would ever let her down.
He could see bodies down all over the place. Some were cops and some bad guys. This was all wrong. Rita better be all right. He couldn't picture a life without her beside him. She was his life. He just had to get up the nerve to tell her how he felt. Then duck for cover, she may very well shoot him. He had promised years before not to ever hit on her. They were friends. They had the utmost respect for each other, but somewhere along the way his feelings had grown and became more intense for her. She was such an incredible women, who wouldn't fall in love with her. They shared a closeness that most married couples didn't have. Their friendship was something to treasure and neither wanted to do anything to jeopardize it, but still when he looked into those beautiful green eyes of hers his heart did flip flops.
Another bullet flew by his head, he knew had to get out of there. He saw his chance as several other cops closed in. A fire escape ladder was shrouded in darkness against a wall, if he could make it there he could climb to the roof and get back around to the front of the building where Rita had come in. He fired some cover shots and dashed to the near wall grabbed the bottom rung and climbed like hell, hoping no stray shot would bring him down. He popped the roof hatch and climbed out. He made it to the side of the building and climbed down the outer fire escape, ran around the building to a row of squad cars parked near by.
Captain Lipshitz waited aniously behing the car as an out of breath Chris leaped behing the car.
"Chris, you okay?"
""Yeah Cap, but it all went to hell in there." He panted for breath.
Another cop jumped behind the car. Derek leaned againt the side of the car in an effort to catch his breath. "Man it's crazy in there."
Chris stared at him with icy blue eyes, "Derek where's Rita." He nearly yelled.
"She was right behind me Chris, but when I came out she wasn' there. I couldn't get back in there, the hole closed up."
Chris grabbed him by his shirt collar and hauled him to his feet, nearly lifting him off the ground. "Damn it Derek, how could you come out without her. I should have never agreed to let her go in with you." He shook him with fury.
"Chris calm down. That's an order." The Captain yelled as he pulled Chris off of Derek. "This won't help the situation."
"I know Cap. I know, but that's Rita in there. Give me your gun, mines empty. I'm going in after her. Derek where's the last place you saw Rita." He demanded.
"Chris you can't go back in there. That's suicide man." Derek tryed to reason with him. "Every bodies bailing out." He pleaded.
"Just tell me Derek." Chris demaned with steely eyes letting Derek know he wasn't about to back down.
"Okay, she was about half way back on the left side. There where a lot of boxes and crates, she was coming across on top of them."
"Here Chris take my radio." The Cap said. "Call when you find her or I'll let you know if she gets out on her own. Be carefull in there son." He said as he handed Chris his radio and put a hand on his shoulder. "We don't need any dead cops."
"Right Cap." Chris said as he started back to the warehouse an intense look of determination on his face.
"Captain, are you nuts. How could you let him go back in there?" Derek questioned.
"Son, you'll understand when you've been around as
long as I have. There was nothing I could have done to keep him from going back after her.
He would have went with or without my blessing. Thats how it is with them." Derek
nodded his head in understanding he had just had a glance into the closeness between Chris
and
Rita. God help anyone who tryed to harm her.
Chris managed to get to the side of the warehouse and enter through a broken window. He crouched low and headed to where Derek had seen Rita last. Bullets were still flying and people where scattered around behind boxes. He called for Rita quietly while stealthly making his way from crate to crate. He flattened himself to the floor as another round of bullets came close. He thought he heard a low moan on the other side of the nearest crate.
He fired a few rounds from the Captains gun and flung himself over the crate, nearly landing on top of his lifeless partner. There in a small opening between crates was Rita. She was laying on her side not moving at all, her eyes were shut.
Chris squeesed in behing her, pressing his body full length aganist her back. His hand rested on her hip. "Dear God, please let her ge okay." He begged silently.
His hand began to travel over her hip and across her
stomach slowly moving upward.
His breath became shallow as his fingers touched his partner intimatly. God she had a
beautiful body, just made to be touched by him, as his hand neared her breast Rita moaned
softly and her hand moved to clutch his. She guided his hand to her breast, placing it
there herself and gently squeeed, her nipple hardened immediatly in his hand. A soft moan
escaped her lips. Chris had dreamed of this so often, he couldn't believe it was really
happening. His body went on full alert as he reacted instinctively and lowered his lips to
her neck.
"Mmm, Chris that feels so good, don't stop. I've waited so long for you to touch me like this." She said breathlessly. As her hand continued to help him massage her breast she turned her head to search out his lips and gently touched his in a tender kiss.
Chris swallowed hard finding it very hard to breathe. His body automaticly pressed closer to hers molding it self to her softness. Her lips felt so good as they parted and his tongue began to play with hers. He had longed for just this moment. She welcomed his touch as his hands moved on their own searching out hidden treasures. She wanted him, his touch and his kiss. "Thank you God." The kiss continued as their tongues met in a stunning duel of pleasure. Chris' mind realed from the intense pleasure it brought him. God she was hot, he was burning to have her, to make love to her, but she was hurt, and first things first. He had to find out how bad she was hurt and if it was possible to try to move her without causing more damage. He pulled his lips away regretably as a soft sigh escaped from his partner.
"Rita, Rita, come on honey open your eyes. I need to know if you're okay." He moved his hand up to her cheek and then trough her hair searching for any signs injury. Finally finding a large lump on the back of her head.
She cryed out in pain, then slowly opened her eyes. "Chris your here." She said as she stared directly into the deep blue debth of his eyes and automaticly pulled him to her for a reassuring hug.
"Yes, I'm here Sunshine." He spoke lovingly to her as he pulled back to look into her eyes. More bullets came by.
"What happened Chris? My head feels like I've been hit by a sledge hammer."
"Derek came out without you. I knew I should have never let them separate us. Nobody can watch your back like I can." He hugged her close to him letting her know just how scared he had been.
"You came back for me?" she questioned knowing already that he had risked everything to find her.
"Of course Sammy, you're my partner." He stated looking her right in the eye, "I would never have left you in the first place."
Rita smiled loving the fact that he took such good care of her. She glanced around. The bullets were getting closer to them as they lay in their little cacoon surrounded by crates and cartons. "It's bad isn't it Sam." She asked with more than a little concern. She saw the worry reflected back from his eyes. "Are we trapped?"
"Yeah its bad, but we've seen worse. We always managed to do okay, Sammy." He tryed to reassure her, even thought he wasn't so sure himself this time.
"I came to once Chris, then blacked out again. I was so afraid I'd never see you again. It scared the hell out of me. Then I could feel you near me. Feel you touching me. I knew it was you."
He smiled knowing that the feeling of holding her in his arms was worth any trouble he had endured to get to her, and the words she had said to him had blown him away. But he had to be concerned for her health right now. "Rita are you hurt anywhere else?"
"No, I don't think so. Chris you have to listen to me, in case we don't make it out of here there are some things you need to know." She pleaded knowing it was now or never.
" Rita, I won't let that happen. I promise I'll get you out of here."
"Chris listen, we're running out of time." She was breathing hard and had a scared look in her eye.
"I want to tell you something before its to late. I would never forgive myself if something happened to either one of us and I never told you how I really feel about you."
"Okay Sammy, I'll listen to anything you have to say."
"Chris" she hesitated, "I love you."
"I love you too, Sammy." He said giving her his best Lorenzo smile. The one he saved for only her.
"No, I mean I love you, really love you with everything I have. I'm in love with you." With that said she pulled his head to her and kissed him with such love and tenderness Chris thought he would die from the pure joy of it. She caressed his face gently and broke off the kiss to look directly into his eyes for his reaction.
He smiled at her with such love and awe it brought tears to her eyes. He kissed the tears away and spoke ever so softly against her cheek. "I love you too, heart and soul, I love you." and dove back in for a mind-blowing kiss of his own.
Their lips pressed together in pure delight as their mouths opened and their tongues merged in a kiss so heated, so charged with need and want that all was forgotten but each other. Time seaced to be. The kiss seemed to last forever as bullets flew by and their breathing became heavy with unleashed emotions.
Chris broke away to steal a breath, "Oh, Sammy. I could kiss you forever." Chris said still brushing her lips with his, refusing to completely brake away from her.
"I would love that Chris." She said hugging him close then wincing in pain as her head began to protest in pain.
"Sammy, you okay?" he asked as he felt her body tense.
"It's just my head Chris. It's starting to hurt a lot."
"We have to get you out of here." He said as he looked for a way out of this mess. He wasn't about to lose her now.
"Just one more kiss Chris, please." She begged as she reached for his lips again. She pulled his head to her just as another bullet passed with-in inches of his head. The kiss started out wonderful and then Rita faded slowly until she went limp. He felt her grow still and the panic went into his very soul.
"Sammy, Sammy, no, no, not now. Dear God, you can't take her now. I won't let you." He screamed as fear gripped him. He felt for a pulse and was very relieved to find a slow steady beat. "I've got to get you out of here." He said again as he searched for any sign of a way out.
He saw light coming from behing him and realized there was a blackened window behind the other crate. A few stay bullets had gotten through and light was coming in from the holes. If he could just manouver them closer maybe he could pry it open. He found the latch at last and pushed hard and the window gave way. There was about a four-foot drop but he could manage that. Rita didn't weight much, even passed out as she was. Finally on the outside of the building help was close by.
Captain Lipshitz grabbed him as he held Rita close and rushed her to the ambulance.
"Good job Chris. How is she?"
"I don't know Cap. I think she has a concusion. I couldn't find any other injuries. Let's get her to the hospital." Chris' concern was showing as he refused to let anyone else take her from his arms.
"You go with her Chris. I'll finish up here and come
as soon as I can." Cap saw the care Chris was giving Rita. He knew in his heart that
they belonged together. They
loved each other deeply, any fool could see that. It wouldn't be long now before they had
to admit it too.
Chris nodded and climbed into the ambulance placing Rita gently on the bed. "I'm right here Sam. I'm never gonna leave you again. It's you and me from now on." he said as he gently brushed the hair away from her eyes.
It was 3:00 in the morning, all the doctors and nurses had come and gone. So had the
Captain and Frannie and Derek and half of the department. Rita was one very well liked
detective, especially by her partner. Who had refused to leave her side for even a moment.
He wanted to be there if she woke up. He wanted to be the first thing she saw when she
opened her eyes.
He looked lovingly at his partner, his best friend and the only person he would gladly walk through fire for. She was beautiful even laying in a hospital bed. So many emotions threatened to overwhelm him. Here was his life tied up in such a small package. He couldn't even imagine a day without her in it. She smiled and it lit up his universe. Sometimes he found himself just staring at her marveled by her beauty and her inner strength. His hand went to caress her cheek and a soft moan came from her lips.
"I'm here Sammy." he whispered, "Everythings okay."
Rita sighed and a slight smile appeared on her lips. Somehow she new she was in good hands.
An hour later her eyes fluttered open. She looked down and saw Chris asleep at the side of her bed his hand holding hers. The contentment she felt just knowing he was there was unimaginable. Memories of the warehouse came flooding back to her and she felt a strange relief knowing that everything was out in the open now. She had told Chris of her love and he had responded in such a beautiful way. Her hand moved to caress his hair.
Chris stired and looked up into her amazing green eyes. "Hi, Sunshine."
Rita beamed as he moved up to her taking her face into his hands he gently kissed her lips.
"Welcome back, I've missed you."
"Well it's good to be back, especialy if the welcome comes from you." she said pulling his lips back to hers and letting the kiss linger making them both a little to hot.
Chris pulled away and took a deep breath, "Ah Sammy, you can't tease me like that. I only have so much self control, but the minute your out of this hospital bed watch out."
"Chris is that a threat." she teased. "I have a feeling that you just want to put me into another kind of bed."
"That my lady is a bonafied promise." he said giving her another quick kiss.
"Where's the doctor Chris. I'm ready to go now." she laughed and wiggled her eyes at him.
"Sorry Sam, you have a bad concusion and need to get better, besides I don't want to be responsible for putting you back into the hospital."
"Yeah Lorenzo, you think your that good huh." she grinned from ear to ear.
"Ah Sammy, didn't I tell you years ago." he smiled wickedly.
"Yeah you did and it's about time I found out the truth."
"I can't wait Sammy."
"Neither can I Chris. Neither can I." with that she pulled his lips to hers and showed him just how much he had to look forward to.
Sorry this is a short one. It just seemed like the place to end it.
